An abdominal ultrasound is done to evaluate:
- Kidneys
- Liver and bile ducts
- Gallbladder
- Pancreas
- spleen
- Abdominal aorta and other blood vessels of the abdomen

Ultrasound is used to help diagnose various ailments, such as:
- Abdominal pain or bloating
- Abnormal liver function
- Enlarged abdominal organ
- Stones in the gallbladder or kidney
- Aneurysm in the aorta


Additionally, ultrasound can be used to provide guidance in biopsies.

Doppler ultrasound images can help the doctor see and evaluate:
- Blockages in blood flow (such as clots)
- Narrowing of blood vessels
- Congenital vascular tumors or malformations
- Several organs that do not receive blood flow, or with reduced blood flow
- Different areas with blood flow greater than normal, a situation that sometimes occurs during infections

PREPARATION: Fast of 6-8hrs preferably.
